Discover new sculpture by Robert Harding with Wychwood Art. Robert Harding has been a professional sculptor since 1981 when he came to live in Wales having trained in Coventry, Exeter and Lancaster. Robert exhibited widely in Wales and internationally. During this time he has worked mainly in metal - both with fabrication and casting. He was introduced to the joys of casting iron in 2006 and is now part of a network of artists in South Wales who have resurrected this process as a feature of their sculptural practice. Currently also pursuing academic research into artists who during the 1950s who also experimented with ‘backyard casting’. "I am a sculptor therefore I make objects. But not all of these objects can be classified as pure sculpture. The ‘metal vessels’ that I am exhibiting with Wychwood Art are often the by-product of a piece of sculpture – they incorporate a shape, form or texture that I have originally developed for a piece of sculpture. They are all part of a large series of metal vessels that I have been making on and off for the last 11 years. Within this series there are a number of sub-series: bowls based on geographical places, spikey bowls, rocking bowls, spinning bowls, pierced vessels etc. I usually make about half a dozen such pieces a year - so they are quite rare!"
