A Ray Fish. More specifically a Manta Ray Fish Doodle! 15 x 14cm pen and ink
Yes, these formidable animals glide like eagles in the ocean depths.... and that's just about all they have in common with eagles. Though there may be a rogue Manta out there somewhere perched on a branch, hunting mice and scavenging fish off a nearby romp of otters. (Yep... it's a 'romp' of otters wink emoticon ) The land Manta is truly an elusive creature.
More commonly, Manta Rays are found in the ocean. Different species of Manta vary in size but the larger Manta rays are 7m across. They are filter feeders, so sift through water with their mouth open to feed on plankton. They are a protected species, but are still being fished for their gill rakers for use in Chinese medicine.
