Drag Queen on the Rocks is an allegorical print by Tim Southall. It depicts a drag queen focusing all her charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent on negotiating a very rocky and uneven landscape. The title alone suggests that it might be all over for the Drag Queen: she is in difficulty and likely to fail; in tatters, ruined, and perhaps beyond repair. But never underestimate a drag queen. The fact that she has the nerve to wear stiletto heels while rock climbing in crinoline frock may seem preposterous, but it says something about her mettle. She is fearless and a force to be reckoned with and will overcome everything life throws at her. This print is an etching and aquatint made on a copper plate. It is printed on Somerset Velvet, an off white heavyweight 300 gsm handmade paper from St Cuthbert's Mill in Somerset. The print is in a limited edition of 75 and signed, numbered and dated in pencil by the artist. The image size is 20 x 30 cm on a paper size is 32 x 42 cm.

Tim Southall studied Fine Art at Northumbria University and then printmaking Royal College of Art and l’école des beaux art, Paris. Based in London for twenty years, he now splits his time between London and his house and studio in Cadiz Province, southern Spain. The base upon which he builds his work is metaphysics: existence, objects and their properties, space and time, cause and effect, and possibility. Using these guides, he express's how he see's and experiences the world. This he does mostly through the use of narrative within a landscape using either the human or animal form to create a narrative. He strives to make work which is delicate and shows a lightness of touch along with an eye for detail. He also uses the language of drawing and mark-making in an attempt to describe emotional depth and atmosphere.
