Sweet Chestnut II is a limited edition wood engraving by Molly Lemon. This artwork will be sent in a paper print sleeve, if you’d prefer a traditional plastic print sleeve please send Molly a message when ordering. To create this print Molly engraved this design onto a holly woodblock beneath a sweet chestnut tree in Devon. The block was engraved by hand using traditional hand tools over 3 sittings. She then took the block into the print studio and printed it using an antique press. After the light blue/green layer was printed Molly worked back into the block before printing the second, navy layer.
Molly Lemon is a printmaker who is based in the Cotswolds. Molly specialises in wood engraving. Working onto end grain wood Molly engraves images inspired by nature and the rural landscapes surrounding her.
Molly works onto each woodblock using traditional hand tools creating thousands of fine marks which make up the final image. The block is then inked up and printed on her 1868 miniature Albion Press.
Concerned with conservation and global warming Molly aims for her prints to reflect the beauty and vulnerability of the plants and animals we share this planet with. Full of detail, when you look at her prints you’ll find yourself stepping into a world of miniature.
