A diptych: ie 2 panels which fit together to make one painting or can be hung a little apart. The left hand canvas is 120 x 100 cm; the right hand canvas is 120 x 150 cm. Oil on canvas.
The inspiration is Trematon Castle, a fascinating Norman castle in Cornwall just near where I live. I walk by most days and enjoy the surrounding views. The view is across the viaduct and across the River Lynher to Plymouth. The colour is impressionistic and not realistic but some elements of the painting reflect shapes of garden plants (echeum) within the walls and sails of boats in the river. The hot colour takes its influence from travel to Burma recently where the floating gardens of Inle Lake offered possibilities of an exciting palette. Of course I mean the viewer to see shapes familiar to them or from their imagination
