'Banana Sky' depicts a joyful, bustling market scene at the Turkish Markets, Berlin, last year in 2021. During this time I was living by the canal in Kreuzberg as part of an artist residency, where everyday I would make sketches of the colourful, lively markets selling everything from fruit, clothes, fish to instruments. 'Banana Sky' depicts such a scene merged with imagined spaces in my mind - expressing a new reality. Mixing exotic palm trees from memories of past summer holidays, with the reality in front of me; I strive to create a new dreamscape where I want the viewer to escape into. Framed in a white tray frame, ready to hang, with a signature at the bottom right of the painting.

Contemporary abstract landscape painter Lorna Sinclair now available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Lorna Sinclair is a visual artist from Scotland, whose practice primarily involves painting, drawing and printmaking. Graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2017 with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art, Lorna currently lives and works in Glasgow. Lorna has exhibited work across Europe, whilst recently completing Art Residencies in Cyprus and Berlin. Lorna’s paintings explore the exuberance and life-infusing force of colour found in diverse landscapes and domestic spaces. Every painting is directed by colour, for it is colour that inspires and moves her to paint. The Fauvists have greatly impacted Lorna’s artistic style and perception of painting; using uninhibited pure colour, rich textures and applying a spontaneous energy to her work is key to Lorna’s practice. Lorna aims to excite and transfer this energy to the viewer through gestural brushstrokes and the thick, physical layering of oil pastels which she predominately uses. Playing with light and shade, whilst illuminating and exaggerating intricate details from nature and objects that may often be overlooked, Lorna merges reality with surreality in her paintings. Ultimately, Lorna wants to provide a sense of escapism to the viewer; offering a new, colourful reality for them to immerse themselves into, by inviting them to see the world differently through her colour-saturated lens.
