Pastel Meadow is an original landscape painting inspired by the pretty Oxfordshire countryside where Cathryn enjoys daily walks. Watery paint was dripped on to the canvas and tilted to create the dramatic meadow effect. The focal point of the little house and sun draws the viewers eye upwards while the distant field adds depth to the horizon. Splashes of pastel colours including pink and orange suggest wild flowers to add interest to the foreground.
I love to create paintings inspired by the stunning Oxfordshire countryside where I live and seascapes from my travels. These are usually enhanced by my vivid imagination. Following A Level I continued to study art at Banbury in Oxfordshire and finally a degree at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, totalling six years of art training and many, many more years experimenting. I enjoy the experimental approach of trying out different mediums including ink, acrylic, oil and watercolour. The application of the paint is an exciting experience for me creating interesting marks such as splashes, dripping, masking, dry brushing and palette knife effects. Working in a spontaneous manner, I relish in the excitement of the unpredictable nature of the media I combine. In fact ‘happy accidents’ are a fundamental part of my practise and lead to each piece having its own individuality.
