About this work of Art
Alison Berrett ‘Cloisters of the Imagination’
The pale turquoise and darker cobalt blue of the background are colours we may associate with being outside and yet the textures and architectural shapes seem to suggest an interior wall or perhaps a building. I often use the pointed arch in my paintings as well as irregular circles. These are inspired by a fascination with the pleasing shapes of gothic architecture and also with the contemplative purpose for which these buildings were and often still are used. My work is embedded in the landscape, weather and seasons but is also entwined with my leaning towards the mystical and reflective aspects of life. This painting combines these two concepts and reflects the influence that nature had on gothic architecture.
