Cox Tor in Winter is an original landscape painting by James Tatum. The light colours and thick texture of paint applied by Tatum gives the piece substance and a strong sense of movement.

Born 1944. Moved from Canada to the U.K. in 1987. “I have drawn and painted for most of my life. After a long career in industrial design and engineering, I moved from London to Devon in 2007 in order to paint full time. My landscape paintings begin en plein air and are completed in my studio in Exeter. I regularly exhibit in throughout the U.K. and in Holland and Switzerland.” His paintings are also in collections in Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S.A. In March 2014, he was elected Academician, The South West Academy, SWAc. James primarily paints expressionistic landscapes of the West Country or wherever his travels take him. His paintings are concerned with balancing close observation and structure with his emotional, visceral responses to the landscape. His goal is to make paintings which are physically exciting and therefore, involve experiment and risk taking.
