Lake
Original Painting

This painting was inspired by my many walks to Bushey Park during Lockdown. The lake was rich in colour from the reflections of large shrubs that surrounded its borders. This allowed me to use warm rich colours in the work. The translucent beauty of the water that was constantly moving and gave me the challenge of keeping the paint fluid and open.
Deborah Lanyon is a Twickenham based artist. I have been painting since the age of fifteen. I trained in the late seventies at St Martins and The Byam Shaw School of Art. I have had many exhibitions in and out of London, including Art First in Cork street and more recently The Jenny Granger gallery in Whitstable. I have sold paintings to private collectors and companies including The Glass House restaurant in Kew, The Square restaurant in Bruton Street and The Park Lane hotel. My work is primarily in acrylic. I work on large scale abstract landscapes. I like to emphasize both structure and colour in my compositions. Artists who I admire and have influenced my work include many of the St Ives artists, namely, Roger Hilton, Patrick Heron and Ben Nicholson. From Hilton, I learned the importance of mark making, from Heron colour and from Nicholson the significance of structure in holding a painting together.
