Field is an original landscape painting by Gina Parr
The painting, Field, is from the Artist’s Intelligence of feeling series. Gina Parr’s working practice acts as a visual diary of her thoughts and feelings often based on the past, but sometimes on something seen, music heard, places visited and her everyday experience and mood.
This painting, Field, and many of her works feature a stab of intensified brilliant yellow, noticeable at certain times of year in the landscape, gorse or oil seed rape, theatrically lit by a shaft of sun.
When painting, she is completely immersed in the process, building a reverberating relationship with the canvas, a push and pull of chance and control. As much is taken away from the painting as is added, with constant building and washing of the canvas, aiming to invoke an atmosphere drawn from the process, the initial emotional trigger and the colour palette employed. She uses palette knife, cloth, brush and sponge to add, remove, scratch, blur and work the paint, sometimes utilizing large amounts of water poured down the canvas, making it necessary to paint in wellingtons…..
Gina Parr works predominantly in the medium of painting, but also photographs when traveling: her way of painting whilst on the move. Her work is driven by autobiographical themes and natural reference, exploring the human condition through connections to place, time, space and memory. She has exhibited widely in galleries and art fairs in the UK and completed commissions in The Middle East, Belguim and London. Her works are held in collections worldwide including Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston’s Children’s Museum USA, and Goldman Sachs Senior Economist, London. Originally trained as a Fine Artist, graduating with a First Class BA Honours Degree, she went on to Chelsea College of Art to study Set Design, leading to a 25 year career designing many prestigious shows for stage and television. During this time she also lectured in art and design in various colleges including Chelsea College of Art and Nottingham University. She returned to work as an Artist in 2007, bringing her creative experience as a designer to her practice. She now lives and works between Devon and London’s East End.
