Flood Debris 1 – This painting by Annie Coxey is a gorgeous abstract painting based on her studies of flood debris from the Cumbrian floods in 2015. It is made using acrylic, inks, collage strips of music notes, and drawing. The paintings Annie Luke Turner makes are inspired by the landscape in Cumbria where Annie lives and involve a use of mixed media. Annie works from her studio in Kendal and has exhibited throughout the UK and has recently returned from Art Fair Cologne where she found new collectors for her work.
Using acrylic paint, drawing, collage, spray paint, oil bars and resin, Annie is never sure how the paintings will develop as they evolve and they become a balance between magic moments with the materials and controlling the marks.
Annie enjoys walking in the dramatic Cumbrian landscape, using sketches and photographs to record the colours and patterns in the landscape. Annie also often uses sewing patterns as collage in the paintings, with the arrows and symbols reminding her of symbols and contours on maps. Many of the paintings by Annie have layers of mark making and she enjoys rediscovering marks hidden underneath the paint. Recently Annie has been using resin in some of the paintings which 'capture' a part of the painting and reveal the layers underneath while more paint layers are applied around the resin. Annie paintings are multi layered, bold and painterly statements which are deeply energised.
