'Cotswold Barley Field' is an original landscape painting by Georgie Dowling. This painting was inspired by a view spotted on a walk through the fields in the Cotswolds, the yellow of the barley was so vibrant against the otherwise more muted colours of the distant fields. The block colour of the yellow field contrasts with the array of shapes and colours within the pattern of fields, exploring the variety we find in our landscape. The paint is applied thickly with a palette knife creating an interesting and varied texture. From a body of work produced during the Covid-19 lockdowns, used as a way to escape the confinements that we found ourselves in, searching for peaceful space away from the uncertainty surrounding us. Mostly produced from memories of exploring the Cotswold countryside, these pieces portray the defining details that stood out to the artist whilst exploring the local landscape. The paintings are vibrant and uplifting, inviting the viewer into their serene setting.
