In ‘Dawn Willow and Mist’ Lee Tiller has used a delicate and ethereal palette of colours, ranging from dusky peach and rose to rich greens and blues. He paints in the same tradition as the original impressionists, painting an immediacy that recreates the sensation of experiencing a moment in time and place. Hidden with the brushstrokes are myriad colours that often surprise and confound, yet viewed as a whole, form a harmonious effect similar to musical expression. Having developed a reputation for painting the effects of light, Lee’s work has often been mentioned alongside the works of the original French Impressionists, employing broken colour to create beautiful chromatic harmonies. In this particular painting Lee Tiller has employed the traditional sfumato effect to recreate the gossamer veil of misty light. Like Monet and Pisarro, Tiller reveals as much with colour within the shadows as you would expect to find in the full radiance of reflected sunlight. ‘Dawn Willow and Mist’ will make a fine centre piece for any room.
