In 'The Old Path Home' Lee Tiller has used a rich and autumn palette of burnished orange, green, and yellow colours, which is then accentuated by purples and Ultramarine in the shadows. He paints in the same tradition as the original impressionist artists, painting with an immediacy that recreates the sensation of a moment in time and evocation of place. Hidden with the brushstrokes are myriad colours that often surprise and confound, yet viewed as a whole, form a harmonious effect similar to musical expression. Having developed a reputation for painting the effects of light, Lee’s work has often been mentioned alongside the works of the original French Impressionists, employing broken colour to create beautiful chromatic harmonies. Like Monet and Pisarro, Tiller reveals as much with colour within the shadows as you would expect to find in the full radiance of reflected sunlight. This particular painting was inspired by childhood memories of playing in the local woodland around his home town of Reading. 'The Old Path Home' will make a wonderful, calming centre piece for any room or office space.
