Marie Robinson’s Night Time Trafalgar Square is an original urban landscape painting of one of the fountains in Trafalgar Square, London on a Winter's evening. Marie was inspired by the lights of the fountain and the lights of the Canada House building in the background reflected in the water. Night Time Trafalgar Square is painted in oils on canvas board and is framed in a dark grey painted wood frame with gold detailing.
Marie Robinson artist sells works online and in our art gallery in Oxfordshire. Marie Robinson artist comments "My area of artistic practice is painting, underpinned by close observational drawing.
I have a continuing engagement with thematic collections and am inspired by the history and associations inherent in ordinary objects and materials.
My subjects are commonplace items particularly from the domestic environment. I am interested in the arrangement, combination and repetition of these familiar items and the narrative, atmosphere or resonances which can be evoked by the considered choices of subject and composition.
I work from a contemporary perspective rooted in the tradition of realistic still life painting. Painting directly from life I employ a representational style to evoke the qualities of the subject which first attracted my attention, without losing the physicality of oil paint on a flat surface.
On leaving school I initially studied for a Chemistry degree before having my two children. Despite having drawn and painted all my life it was only while bringing the children up that I found the flexibility to develop further artistically. I initially studied with the Open College of the Arts and was eventually able to study for a Fine Art degree with De Montfort University as a ‘mature student’, graduating in 2002 with First Class Hons. During this time I also worked part-time as a picture researcher.
I now paint full-time, working from my garden studio."
