Fiona comments “My background is in teaching and, briefly, millinery, but I had always enjoyed drawing and started painting a few years ago. A potter friend gave me one of her beautiful bowls and I fell in love with its clean lines and tactile shape and wanted to try and capture its stillness. Symbolically bowls are said to be containers for the soul, all I know is that I feel very calm and peaceful when I paint them. I build up the colour in multiple layers of paint, applying the paint quite thinly and then wiping away most of each layer until only a trace of colour remains.”
