“I spend a lot of time in Cornwall, mainly during the summer months and this painting was inspired by photos and sketches I did whilst sitting on a rocky outcrop on a beach called Constantine Bay. The colours of the rocks were so varied and beautiful that I wanted to make them the focal point of the painting whilst also showing how they integrated into the coastal landscape in that area. The rugged and wild coastline of north Cornwall is a constant inspiration to me.”

Lucy Davies trained at St Martins and Brighton and has a BA ( Hons) in graphic design, specialising in illustration.
Lucy Davies has always enjoyed painting but it was not until her children finally flew the nest that she found time to fully concentrate on her passion and now paints full time from her studio at home in north London.
Along with drawing and painting Lucy’s other passion is Cornwall and
having spent every summer down at her parents’ caravan since
childhood, she now spends as much time as she can on the north
Cornish coast, painting and sketching the area she loves and knows so
well.
Lucy Davies draws her inspiration from the beautiful and sometimes wild coastal scenery of this area - the dramatic sea, rugged cliffs and
stunning, golden beaches inform her work and provide the reference for her colourful, mixed media paintings. Texture, pattern and colour dominate her artwork and she uses a process of layering acrylic media to create the effect she wants. An underpainting or tonal wash will be overlaid with layer upon layer of paint or ink then some areas scraped or washed away to create a dynamic composition. Lucy will often carefully plan a picture so that once she starts painting she can work fast and spontaneously - adding finer detail later if required.
Also fond of walking, Lucy will always take her camera and sketchbook
with her on trips, to record new images so she has plenty of inspiration
in the cold winter months when she’s tucked away in her studio back
home.
Lucy’s painting of a Cornish stone wall got her short listed to appear in
the very first series of Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year in 2015 and
along with other galleries in the south of England, she is now delighted
to be represented by Wychwood Art.
