Rose, Lily, Rose, Lily (with gold leaf)

I have painted this scene several times because it is so rich and colourful and yet so restful. It’s a bank of day lilies and dog roses in the garden of a cottage belonging to a good friend. I love the drifts of bright oranges and pinks – so showy and yet, at the same time, so unassuming. I’ve highlighted the day lilies with 24 carat gold leaf. At the moment, this work is unframed.
