Part of my vibrant blue sky series. The feeling of the leaves gently swaying in the breeze give me a sense of peace. Hence why I called it Serenity. I love the contrasting colours of the blue sky against the leaves in warm red, oranges and yellows. The trunks and trees have a painted
Contemporary artist Sophia Chalklen sold online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art.
Sophia has always had a strong passion for Art ever since she was a child. Sophia studied at Winchester school of Art where she completed a BA specialising in Textile design.
After achieving her BA she went on to become a Freelance Printed Textile designer for a small company in London.
Shortly after that she managed to get a job as a Fine Jewellery Designer for the Crown Jewellers, Asprey and Garrard Bond St. Sophia became a specialist in designing high end Jewellery, accessories, and ornaments for English and Middle Eastern Royalty and the Elite.
She also designed a great variety of items including rings, Jewellery Suites, watches, cufflinks, Jewel incrusted clocks, tiaras and precious ornaments. Her eye for detail leant well to her career in jewellery design and she became an expert in her field.
Once she decided to start a family she went back to main her love of fine art, drawing and painting and started her own business running Art classes for all age groups.
Running weekly classes teaching children aged 5-11 as well as running private group lessons for teenagers and adults. She also taught weekly, in care homes, which were really rewarding and beneficial to the mental health of the residents.
Due to the Covid pandemic her classes were put on hold. During this time, she became quite sick and was unable to walk for about 6 months. She missed her walks in nature terribly and to help her mentally cope she decided to paint, and began to build up her own body of work as an Artist. Sophia's work took off and she has since become busy with regular commissions.
She is inspired by nature and light and she likes to add 24ct Gold Leaf to her art which adds a touch of magic. She has now started selling a new line of uplifting, unique, nature inspired oil paintings. Like Art, nature is an amazing form of therapy and escapism. When she combined the two it made her truly happy. Sophia also enjoys painting wildlife animals and a percentage of the sales go to wildlife conservation.
The best part of selling artwork for her is seeing the joy it brings to others especially when the subject holds a lot of meaning.
Sophia believes she is lucky, as an artist often sees what others can only catch a glimpse of….
