Media City Construction At Salford Quays is an original oil painting by Robert Barlow on 2cm deep unframed canvas. (Strong colours, with paint laden textures set against a washy sky).

The scene depicts the construction of ‘Media City BBC Headquarters’ as viewed from an abandoned ship yard at the old remains of Manchester’s former Salford Quays, in 2009.
The painting is a very accurate interpretation of a site busy with cranes and half erected structures, that form a back drop to a typical abandoned dry dock yard of old barges, moored up ships, rusty oil drums, loading cranes, reflected by ground laden pools of water on a cracked surface of concrete, broken by buddleia weeds. The scene depicts a photographically interesting and forgotten place being awoken by change and a visual fascination with post industrial scenes and busy skylines of cranes and construction.

Size: H:77cm cm x W:103cm cm

Robert Barlow, who has a photographic eye for the urban landscape, travels the length and breadth of the country to photograph his subjects, through the media of digital photography, capturing the ever changing skylines through out recent modern times, which he translates into oil paintings of rich, colouful and virile compositions. Born in 1973, the Tamworth based artist attained a B.A Hons art and design degree at Bradford College in 1996, where he specialised in painting, and later obtained a Master of Arts degree in Print Making, in 1998. His works are typically colourful and vibrant, with rustic colours and textures set against turquoises and blues, and begin their process with pale graduated background washes, overlaid with pastel toned block colours, applied by large household brushes. Details are overlaid and textured with palette knives, and various other tools including rollers and smaller brushes. His work depicts scenes of old and new, of changing and regenerating urban skylines and water fronts, new structures erected by cranes and old industrial landscapes, slowly dissapearing , phase by phase. Scenes amongst the concrete jungle, beneath concrete flyovers, streets that have seen better days and inner cities metamophosing into the glass and steel icons of today.
