Duel is an original oil painting by Sophie Harden. This wonderful painting of two fighting bull elephants, kicking up the dust as they go has been inspired by Sophie’s travels to Kenya. Painted on dark a blue background, using contrasting white oil to pick out where the light hits the subject gives this painting a huge sense of movement and fluidity. Sophie’s contemporary monochrome technique allows movement to flood the painting, from the explosive energy and grace of animals to the small details that captures a moment in time. Sophie works to accentuate the adaptation of light, making the viewer perceive a 3D object from often just small marks and brushstrokes.
Sophie Harden grew up in rural Shropshire surrounded by all walks of animal life. Sophie has always had a passion for animals and the countryside inspiring her subject in her art and paintings. Having done university and the London stint, Sophie made the bold move to set up on her own as an artist. Now settled in the county of Oxfordshire, Sophie creates her art from a local studio surrounded by wildlife, from the hares living in the garden to the racehorses on the farm. As a self taught artist Sophie works with a range of methods from quick chalk sketches, to fun vibrant oil paintings, down to detailed pastel portraits. Sophie has worked on a number of animal portraits, capturing the character and detail of each animal subject and delivers the full service for personalised commissions including photography and framing.

Sophie Harden original and prints are available at Wychwood Art both online and in the gallery. Having left corporate life behind in 2016, Sophie decided to make the brave move into the art world. At first, concentrating in producing animal commissions and after a busy Christmas in 2016, she began to grow it into a creditable career. Nearly four years down the line Sophie hasn’t looked back, with her unique style selling well in London and local galleries, with private work and commissions being sold and shipped worldwide. Sophie’s subjects hail from her passion and love for animals, sporting events and travel. As a keen rider Sophie surrounds herself by all equine life which inevitably has led to quite an equestrian theme running through her work. With travel in her blood each trip is evolved around the animals she discovers with a regular trips to Africa to inspire her work. Sophie has exhibited in Belgravia, London at Osborne Studio Gallery at The Mall Galleries, London at The Art For Youth, at the Edinburgh Art Festival and supports local galleries with her work. Her contemporary and fluid technique allows movement to flood the painting, from the explosive energy and grace to the small details that capture a moment in time. Often using a contrast of white oil on bright background colours, Sophie works to accentuate the adaptation of light, making the viewer perceive a 3D object from often just small marks and brushstrokes.
