This painting is a simplified abstraction inspired by different lives travelling across time converging together. This series of fluid paintings by Tania are often produced by commission with colours, lines and spaces based on family members and their relations to one another. The background is a fluid blue image representing sea/earth from a satellite point of view. The sharp lines of the abstract painting contrast this fluid image to give a balance of colour, space and light and create a more vibrant 3D image.
Tania Oko is an artist from Northern Ireland, living in Godalming with a studio in Guildford. She studied Fine Art as Central Saint Martins in London 2006-08.
“I am interested in how light and materials alter images and create new shapes, shadows and reflections and perspectives. My work involves experimenting with 2D and 3D and often the final collections blur lines between both. I am interested in the tension between how your mind interprets what you are seeing based on personal experiences. I like to look at objects and scenes through reflections to make my own interpretation and join the dots to make my own stories through paint, drawing or sculpture.
Although my works are based on my own experiences and how I see things, they are deliberately developed to allow viewers to add their own interpretation based on their own personal experiences. I like to analyse images or objects into simple binary abstract forms and then build them back using colours and shapes to create something new. The process of preparing my work is important. Inspiration and preparing my work is a mindful reflective process, taking peaceful moments in a busy world.”
