Bright colours and bold brushmarks in thick paint are used to recreate the iconic Brisons, two rocks off the coast at Cape Cornwall, on a clear breezy day.
Sweeping, expressive marks mimic the inflow of wind and tide.
Margaret Crutchley has original artworks available online with Wychwood Art and also in their art gallery in Deddington, Oxfordshire.
After many years working in Science, including work as a veterinary surgeon, Margaret returned to her childhood love of Art some twenty years ago. She soon settled on two favourite genres: landscape and portraiture; of both humans and animals.
Margaret’s landscapes are inspired by a love of nature and the countryside and the emotions which they evoke in us. Bright colours and large, expressive brushmarks are used to convey a lively and atmospheric depiction of the scene.
In her portrait studies, she is totally fascinated by the challenging art of capturing, not only a likeness, but also the character and situation of a subject. She does this by careful study of stance, movements, gestures and expressions. These are translated into slightly simplified images in telling colours, using oil or acrylic paint on canvas.
Margaret Crutchley lives and works in London.
