Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look

This piece is part of a series exploring the idea of layers representing life's journey. As lives move on, new things are added, things change on the surface, but bits of the past are still showing through and continue to influence who we are. Other bits are obliterated completely.

Alison is a British contemporary abstract artist and painter, based in Somerset, England. With a degree in textile design, and many years of art making behind her, paintings are developed with a primary focus on colour, pattern and texture. She loves to explore ideas around visual contrasts and creates work that makes a bold visual statement from a distance, but also has richly layered surfaces full of depth and interest close to. Work is made intuitively, drawing on decades of visual memory. Inspiration can be a mood or feeling, a memory, a place, even a symbol or the power of a word or a phrase. This may sometimes be incorporated in the finished piece in the form of visible or abstracted text.
