Where the Wild Things Are is an original abstract floral acrylic painting by Philippa Jeffrey. Playful mark making and vibrant colour give this painting a bohemian sense of spirit. All 11 paintings that comprise Hidden Garden start as a botanical illustration but with each layer of paint they become abstracted forms – a series of mark making, spots and stripes.

Philippa Jeffrey studied Fine Art and History of Art at Leeds University in 1996. Philippa then moved to London where she worked as a Fashion Producer for Conde Nast Publications. A couple of years ago Philippa returned to her roots and the ex-editor became an artist, now painting from her Oxfordshire studio. Using botanical prints as a starting point, Philippa has developed a unique visual language, celebrating layers of colour, pattern and mark-making. Wychwood Art are proud to showcase a series of textured, painterly landscapes – abstracted botanical paintings. A visual candy as opposed to an overly verbalised aesthetic. A decade of exposure within the world of fashion and magazines has undoubtedly informed Philippa’s vision – you only need to look to the catwalk or glossy journals to see a similarly calculated approach – a deliberate and conscious decision to use a particular colour, a specific form. She uses water based paints and a combination of board and canvas.
