Sarah's work is intuitive and emotional, often triggered by the weather or a view and about her response to that moment in time
A monotype is a one off, hand pulled print. After inking up the plate Sarah uses various reductive techniques to create the individual textures and marks. Building layers and creating patterns are key elements to Sarah's work, both in printmaking and painting.
Sarah gained her BA (Hons) at Bristol before moving back to the more familiar landscape of Bedfordshire. Photography became her focus when a busy family life took most of her time. Since getting back to the studio Sarah has mainly been printmaking, and developing her interest in painting working with the Leighton Buzzard Artists and in her own studio in Leighton Buzzard.
"I find landscape endlessly inspiring....the gentle details of Bedfordshire and East Anglia as well as the raw energy of the Cornish coast. I enjoy the immediacy of printmaking, especially monoprinting. My work is often based on remembered emotions or a response to a particular scene, and can start with something as simple as a colour combination. I like to keep it ambiguous, it allows people to keep seeing something new....and everyone sees something different."
