(Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look).
I used to attend a life drawing group where each week a different model would adopt a series of short poses for the group to capture in pencil or charcoal – the limited time of each pose ruled out the use of paint. Some models were static, some moving – one a continually gyrating ballet dancer! This is a compilation of images drawn directly in one session. Although some poses express the energy, and dynamism of continuous movement, overall there is more a feeling of stretching and bending, in a leisurely and relaxed fashion. None of the poses lasted more than 5 minutes, so no time for detail in your haste to record the basic shape of the stance before you. I used wax crayons, as well as pencil because I wanted to express the pressure of the need for speed, to capture the essence before the image changed. I added the painted colour at a later date to set the figures in a background to give them context.
