Up Against the Wall – Kneeling Man. Series 2
Original Line Drawing
Red Ink on Paper
Sheet Size: 122 cm x 152 cm
Up Against the Wall – Kneeling Man is an original figurative line drawing by Myrica Jones.
Having been interested in ink drawing for some time, Myrica wanted to apply the technique to large scale artworks. This is one of a series of original figurative works on paper which are inspired by themes of constraint, strength, escape and hope. Myrica chose to restrict herself to bold muscular forms with clean lines expressed in a single colour to help convey the intensity and sense of struggle encapsulated by each piece. This work is sold separately or as part of a triptych.
Myrica wanted to produce contemporary art that touches on something very human and actually used her 12-year-old son as the, sometimes reluctant, model for these works.
A decorative artist with a background in gilding, special paint effects and mural work, Myrica has recently returned to her original passion of fine art.
She has used many different media over the years including clay, acrylics and pastels and is currently enjoying the power she finds in large-scale figurative forms produced with ink.
Always open to new ideas and forms, Myrica takes her inspiration from a wide range of sources – nature, a texture, a fabric, words or even a post she comes across on social media. That’s what she says makes her creative journey so exciting.
