Porthgwidden by Harriet Hoult is a framed abstract original painting. Using layers of thick paints and carefully selected colours, Harriet renders a canvas akin to an emotional landscape. The fragmented blue tones provide a gradient backdrop for the other colours to sit on top. The strong crisscrossing white lines bring a strong sense of structure to the piece.

Harriet Hoult is an abstract artist, living and working in S.W. London. She works mainly in acrylic and also uses collage, mixed media and oil pastels. Her pieces concentrate on colour and form and are unique in their ability to be at once bold and bursting with energy whilst also retaining an overall delicate nature. Her work is instinctive, drawing inspiration from her local environment, nature, and a love of design and aesthetics.
“I tend not to plan,” says Harriet Hoult. “I have an image in my head as a starting point and I make some marks in the direction of that original idea. Then I feel my way to what the next set of marks will be. It’s a moment-by-moment evolving process. I am inspired by the everyday, often random things that I see and experience in the world around me; the way the light makes a particular shape on a wall, a radio interview with someone I admire, a tree stump in the park. My work is my interpretation of these experiences onto paper. I am fascinated by aesthetics and exploring the visual interplay between form, space and colour."
