The Vitruvian Hare is an original etching by Will Taylor. It explores animal images and mathematics, including Vitruvius’ ideal proportions and the golden ratio. Each impression is marked on the reverse with the artist’s Woolstore Studio stamp.

The Natural Sciences etchings have the feel of Leonardo’s notebooks and draw on the artist’s science and engineering education juxtaposed against animals and other inventions. These are original copper plate etchings presented in limited editions. They play on ideas of mathematics, interconnections and backward writing – a conceit of printmaking. Will Taylor’s printmaking has a traditional feel, using only line in monotone to create a range of tones, and reflects a love and fascination of the masters of the etching revival. As well as the Natural Sciences, Will explores various themes including animals and topographical. An accomplished artist, his printmaking is the culmination of various working methods which include charcoal drawings and painting, always underpinned by a strong sense of draughtsmanship.
Will Taylor grew up in Liverpool and after a career in business chose a dramatically different direction to develop his interest in arts and creativity. He is now an established artist and printmaker based in Rye East Sussex. He attended short schools at the Slade School of Fine Art London and Kent Institute of Art and Design Maidstone, but is predominantly self-taught.
He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2018 and has been a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art since 2005. His work is in various collections and has been in galleries in Kent and East Sussex, as well as in London at the Mall Galleries, Bankside Gallery and at the RA Summer Exhibition.
