This is a linocut of a farmhouse in the hills near Lucca, where
my family and artist friends spent happy times in early summer, when the surrounding landscape was full of wild flowers, olives trees and vines and the sound of the cuckoo
Elaine Marshall was born and still lives in Greenwich . She studied painting at Goldsmiths' College School of Art,
and then followed a postgraduate course at the Slade school of Fine Art . She was awarded the David Murray landscape
scholarship.More recently Elaine gained a B.A. Hons Degree in Book Arts from the London Institute,
a change of direction involving creating artists' books.
At her studio in Greenwich Elaine works in several printmaking techniques. As well as making etchings
and collagraphs on her Rochat etching press, a recent acquisition of an 1850 Albion relief printing press has
inspired a series of colour lino cuts on the patterns of mazes and labyrinths, and multiple images of imaginary
butterfies and insects.Inspiration has also come from travels in France,Andalucia, Morocco and Nepal.
Artist treks to the remote Himalayan Village of Ghandrung have produced a series of etchings which were
exhibited in a touring exhibition in Kathmandu and the UK .
Elaine is a founder member and currently gallery manager of Greenwich Printmakers, and also
participates in the Greenwich Open Studios.Recent exhibitions include the Royal Academy Summer exhibition;
RWA Open Print Bristol and Originals 05 at the Mall Gallery. Elaine's work is in many private and
public collections including the National Maritime and the Victoria and Albert museums.
