The Ardnamurchan Peninsula is a stunning and easily accessible area of Scotland. With spectacular coastline views, beautiful beaches and outstretched optimistic positions from which to absorb all the colour saturated light that is so special on the west coast. This painting was created while spending time at Sanna Bay. Although I have painted a number of pieces directly inspired by Sanna this painting I wanted to capture the optimism if the place and its beautiful, beautiful evening colours. A time to sit an dream of returning next summer and again and again. The painting is framed in a lovely broad white frame as sho3in the photos.

Mary McDonald artist works are available with Wychwood Art online to buy and in our art gallery. Exploring the structures of landscape is my starting point for creating paintings. I love to experiment with perspective and the layering of directional lines, often simplifying a subject into what I see as an assembly of elements. I strive in my paintings to strike a balance between painting a particular subject and trying not to focus my attention on the most obvious elements. I work from my sketch books and photographs and am very lucky to be surrounded by amazing inspirational landscapes in the west of Scotland. My studio is at home and when I’m not painting I’m mum to two young children and my husband and I are also renovating our home. As you can imagine the days with us are creative, busy and unpredictable. I studied at Duncan of Jordanstone college of art and design, graduating in 2000. Then worked as an interior designer for many years before giving it up in 2015 to focus on painting and the family.
