Leave No Trace and Crazy days, City Lights diptych By Sarah Russell. Overall size cm : H74 x W120. Leave No Trace, Monotype (one-off). Monoprint on Paper. Size: H 37cm x W 60cm. Part of a series ‘Ancient Paths’ investigating the bare bones of the landscape. In this case looking at our imprint on the planet. After repeatedly drawing the landscape enplein air I went back to the studio and abstracted the drawings. Using purely monotype means that it is a one-off, and went through the press once only. Crazy days, City Lights. This monotype is part of the ‘Ancient Paths’ series. Looking at the impact of our lives on the world we in habit, the underlying music and patterns I then go back to my studio to abstract my work. As such this is monotype is unique, a one-off print having only passed once through the press.Monotype, abstract landscape, unique. Size: H:37 cm x W:60 cm.

Sarah's work is intuitive and emotional, often triggered by the weather or a view and about her response to that moment in time A monotype is a one off, hand pulled print. After inking up the plate Sarah uses various reductive techniques to create the individual textures and marks. Building layers and creating patterns are key elements to Sarah's work, both in printmaking and painting. Sarah gained her BA (Hons) at Bristol before moving back to the more familiar landscape of Bedfordshire. Photography became her focus when a busy family life took most of her time. Since getting back to the studio Sarah has mainly been printmaking, and developing her interest in painting working with the Leighton Buzzard Artists and in her own studio in Leighton Buzzard. "I find landscape endlessly inspiring....the gentle details of Bedfordshire and East Anglia as well as the raw energy of the Cornish coast. I enjoy the immediacy of printmaking, especially monoprinting. My work is often based on remembered emotions or a response to a particular scene, and can start with something as simple as a colour combination. I like to keep it ambiguous, it allows people to keep seeing something new....and everyone sees something different."
