A professional artist (trained in Hertfordshire where she gained a BA 1st class honours in Fine Art) Teresa moved from the London area ten years ago to a hamlet just over the Tamar Bridge. From this studio she can walk from her gate to soak up the atmosphere of the countryside and estuaries of the Lynher and Tamar. She also has a studio which is part of the Ocean Studios complex in the Royal William Yard, Plymouth.
Teresa has a passion for colour and surface texture. The paintings explore the places where water and land meet: boundaries and enclosures of marsh, estuary and shore, sky and sea and the weather.. They have their origins in real places (latterly Cornwall coast paths, the Scilly Isles, Dartmoor) and are underpinned by observational drawings. Work also includes gardens and still life subjects. Back in the studio there is a departure from the pure vision into other worlds where in the end the work is about the essence of paint itself. I am experimental in the wide subject of “what is painting?” allowing myself to involve collage, stitching, or other ephemera on the picture plane. I am also involved in making series of works which question the dichotemies of figurative/abstract, decorative/narrative, pattern/colour fields. I am addicted to oil paint as a sensuous material.
