This print is inspired by visits to Scotland and its majestic scenery. It is also inspired by the tantalising glimpses one catches of wildlife, such as this red deer stag, through trees when walking in woodland. The colour of the piece aims to contrast the complimentary colours of blue and orange.
Nick Wonham, artist, has beautiful original paintings and limited edition prints available for sale online with Wychwood Art and in our Oxfordshire art gallery. I graduated from Camberwell College of Art with a BA hons degree in illustration in 1991. I then completed a PGCE in secondary art teaching at Goldsmiths College.
The subject matter of my art often derives from my love of nature, but I am also inspired by fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and poetry. I like incorporating bold compositions with an abstract quality and often use complimentary colours. Influences are many and varied, but amongst printmakers I admire Rigby Graham and Edward Bawden.
I have had three books, illustrated with linocuts, published by Incline Press, and my work has appeared in a further five books published by Mascot Media. I have also had five educational software titles published by Inclusive Technology, the first of which was shortlisted for a BETT award in 2005.
When not working hard at my art, I work as a teacher of students with severe learning difficulties in North London. To discuss ayt limited edition prints by Nick Wonham please contact deborah@wychwoodart.com, or call 07799 535765 / 01869 338155.
