Rachel Painter, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rachel Painter creates vibrant contemporary landscapes using her experiences outdoors: walking, wild swimming and campfires to inspire her art.
Painting both from life and developing bigger works in the studio she transforms these landscapes into melodies of colour and texture. Freely applying washes of luminous oils, marbled rivulets and spirited brushstrokes her paintings unfold layer upon layer. The looseness of these earlier layers are given space to shine through her slabs of palette knife oils, lending an abstract element to her landscapes.
Arriving in the South-West in 2008, Rachel trained at Falmouth University graduating with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. With the ambition of always becoming an artist she initially used her passion for creativity to work within communities, realising its influence for a force for good. Having set up community projects, murals and weekly creative workshops for 6 years she felt the call to return to her own painting in 2018.
Now painting from her home studio, she is fascinated most tracing the path of the river - from the wild high places of the moorlands; meandering through woodlands, and flowing into the tidal plains of the ocean. But it’s the rivers transition into wide-open spaces, carving its course through the unknown, watching as the seasons and weather change that inspires her most.
