Rachel Mallalieu.

Condition Report – The work has minor marks to the overstretched canvas. There are two minor red marks to the upper left quarter. There is a minor loss of pigment with minor small brown mark to the upper centre. There is minor rubbing with related loss of pigment to the extreme off centre left edge in the sky area. There are minor finger prints to the extreme top edge, otherwise the work appears to be in generally good condition.

I am absolutely delighted that Red Roof has been selected for this years Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition and has also been made into postcards and mini-prints for Royal Academy merchandise.
When I photographed Red Roof it was a pea soup foggy day in Rye and as I wandered down the estuary something made me turn back and as I did a black and white beach hut with a red roof appeared out of the mist for a few seconds, it looked like some kind of mirage floating in the fog and I set my aperture, composed the shot and took 3 images, then the mist closed in and the hut disappeared. I felt that I had captured the image, but it wasn’t until the film was processed that I knew I had caught the essence of the scene.
This image is sold as a photograph printed onto canvas and is stretch mounted over a wooden frame, so it’s ready to hang on the wall. NB This is a smaller version of the one displayed at the RA, the larger version is also available via Wychwood Art.

Rachel comments - "I have had a love of photography for forty years, when as a child a family friend taught me the basics and I was hooked. I was initially an enthusiastic amateur but in 1999 qualified as a Photographer and my career began, whilst I also carried on a second career as a nurse and now an antique dealer! My work has been diverse and varied, from exhibitions to Artists’ Open Houses during the May festivals in Brighton and from portraiture to photojournalism. What is essential for me is to look for the beautiful and unusual in the everyday. Photography can often be about chance, being in the right place at the right time to see and capture magical moments with the press of a button.
